SEVEN NUCLEAR WAKE-UP CALLS
NuclearWakeUpCall.jpg

Bruce and Cynthia have developed a seminar “Lessons from 7 Nuclear Wake-Up Calls” showing how key figures were “shaken and awakened” by the nuclear danger, from John Kennedy and Nikita Khrushchev in the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, to Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev during two nuclear near-misses in Fall 1983 (the case of Stanislav Petrov, the Russian nuclear launch duty officer – “the man who saved the world” that September and the Russian fear of a first-strike during the Able Archer military exercise in November) and watching the film “The Day After.”  Former U.S. Secretaries of Defense Zbigniew Brzezinski and William J. Perry experienced their own nuclear wake-up calls during dramatic nuclear false alarms. The final case to make clear the lessons for today is the Hawaii false missile alert in January 2018.
